The outdoor museum in Pribylina is an extended exhibition of Liptov Museum in Ruzomberok. It features buildings from the flooded area of Liptovska Mara and some villages of upper and lower Liptov.
The youngest open-air museum in Slovakia is closely connected to the Liptovska Mara dam. Precious buildings, which would have otherwise been flooded, were relocated here to create an unforgettable historical experience for their the visitors.
During a tour we can see the Renaissance chateau with a luxurious interior, mayor’s house, municipal school, workshops of a tailor, wheelwright and blacksmith and a firehouse station. The real jewel is an early-gothic Church of Virgin Mary with the original fragments of wall paintings. Identical twin sister of the church’s tower stands on the banks of Liptovska Mara.
Pribylina is a very lively place thanks to the many events and seasonal promotions with exhibits of folklore and handicrafts. Children can take a ride on the Hutsul horse (descendants of wild horses in Slovakia) and see the dark Carpathian goats or Wallachian sheep.
